Left 4 Dead 2 multiplayer, Last.fm available to silver subscribers this weekend
Jan/100
Microsoft has officially confirmed that the previously European-only Left 4 Dead 2 multiplayer event for silver members will now also occur in the US. The promotion begins this Friday, January 15, at 9AM Pacific and runs (screaming in horror) for 72 hours. During that same time, Last.fm will also be available to silver members.
Now, if one does take advantage of this event, we have a suggestion: Please put on the Morrissey station on Last.fm and contemplate why you own Left 4 Dead 2 with a silver account? No need to answer now, just take your time and listen to some introspective tunes before answering.

Two Poachers Shot to Death After Killing Rhino
Oct/090
Two poachers were killed over the weekend in India’s Orang National Park after the duo allegedly killed a one-horned rhinoceros. The poachers were hoping to use the loud sounds and noises of the Diwali festivities to drown out the sound of their gunfire. By the time forest guards got to the scene, it was too late – a rhino had already been killed. Her horn had been chopped off.

PAX 2009: Red Dead Redemption lets you kill … everything
Sep/090
Red Dead Redemption’s promised Wild West sandbox came to life in a build shown off to attendees at PAX over the weekend. One of the first things we noticed is that you can end a life whenever you want. What kind of lives? See a bunny bouncing by? Kablam. Attacked by a wild bear? Kapow. Angry at your horse and want to put him down? Kablang. You can kill literally every living thing in the game and, in some cases, skin them and sell their hides to the furrier in town to make some dough. We doubt he deals in horse skins, however.
There’s more beyond the break, just mind you don’t get shot.

Microsoft honoring MJ with free Thriller video download
Jun/090
We’re all still reeling from the passing of the King of Pop, but fortunately, Microsoft’s got a nice (albeit brief) memorial for Michael Jackson up on Xbox Live. This weekend only, the Video Marketplace is giving away the full, ten-minute version of MJ’s classic “Thriller” music video for your viewing pleasure. Yep, the greatest music video of all time is free to download until the end of the day today.
It’s a nice gesture — but why not just make the video permanently free? We’re not sure these wounds will heal in such a short period of time.
