Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 revealed, intense

The world’s coolest Jedi, Samuel L. Jackson (suck it, Yoda) has just taken the stage at the 2009 Video Game Awards to reveal Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. In the announcement trailer — Darth Vader’s once apprentice — codenamed “Starkiller” steps into a dark arena only to be faced with a creature hellbent on his destruction. Thankfully, Starkiller — armed with two light sabers — pounces to attack the gargantuan foe. Sadly, it was all CG, but we’ll take any new Force Unleashed we can get.

New Lego Harry Potter trailer has us rowling with laughter

TT Games has been at it for some time now with its Lego-themed games, taking on everything from Star Wars to Rock Band, each entry coupling the same goofy, self-referential comedy with a family friendly low barrier to entry.

The new trailer for Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 takes these recurring tropes and adds them to the world of Hogwarts, Muggles, and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, sprinkling in iconic moments from the first four blockbuster books throughout. Without a release date for the game – and with the first half of the final Harry Potter film not hitting theaters until next November – we worry it might be awhile before we get our hands on this block-breaking version of Harry.

New Force Unleashed achievements discovered

We bet you thought you were done with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Well you just hold on a minute buster, it looks like LucasArts still wants to milk a few more Microsoft Points out of you before they’ve had their fill. We say that because a new batch of achievements have been discovered for the game on Xbox.com (full list at X360A).

What’s particularly interesting about these achievements is that most of them relate to characters made famous after the events that take place in Force Unleashed. There are achievements for defeating Boba Fett, Jabba’s Rancor, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. The interesting part about the third one is that you have to defeat Obi-Wan before and after he dies. From the sound of things, there’s some new DLC on the way that takes place during A New Hope. It also seems like it tasks players with taking up the role of Darth Vader, or perhaps it will introduce an alternate history involving his secret apprentice.

LucasArts will be at the San Diego Comic-Con next week — with plenty of announcements to make — so we probably won’t have to keep guessing for long.

[Thanks, Brandon!]

Top 10 Stormtrooper Crossovers

San Diego ComicCon is almost upon us, and you know what that means — stormtrooper costumes. Lots and lots of them. The white-armored villains have become so prevalent at every geek gathering that they hardly attract much notice, so they’ve had to get creative. Nowadays, you see Imperial Stormtroopers breaking rank and adding all kinds of weird and wonderful things to their standard issue armor, and becoming something weirdly meta in the process. Some of them, like the Elvis Stormtrooper, have become con celebrities in their own right (he’s even got his own website, where he’s reached a Kirk Lazarus level of crossover) and you can barely escape a con without a photo of them.

Galactic Binder
has collected ten of the best stormtrooper crossovers they’ve seen. Seeing so many gathered in one place suggests that costumed Stormtroopers are becoming so ubiquitous that they’ll soon attract as little attention as a plain Stormtrooper. Hell, maybe ordinary troopers will become so rare that spotting one will be like seeing a unicorn in the wild …

So, check out the gallery below, and tell us your favorite. I’ll echo Galactic Binder and give a special gold star to the samurai stormtrooper for going full circle by referencing Kurosawa.
