Mafia II trailer needs guys like you
Mar/100
It doesn’t take much to excel in this thing of ours. You have to have brass whatnots, be willing to do some unsavory acts and put the family above all else — basically, don’t be Fredo. It’s not that hard, when you think about it, but the latest trailer for 2K Games’ Mafia II disagrees. Apparently, in post-WWII, there weren’t a lot of guys who had the stomach to use cover-based shooting mechanics and traverse a sandbox-style environment. Frankly, we’re shocked that The Greatest Generation had any shortcomings at all!

Prison Break trailer reveals innovative ‘constant hanging’ gameplay
Feb/100
We knew a few details about the plot of Deep Silver’s video game adaptation of Prison Break, but we weren’t aware that the game’s protagonist, Company agent Tom Paxton, was actually a chimpanzee in people-clothes. At least, that’s what we’re assuming from the title’s first gameplay trailer, posted above, in which it’s revealed Paxton spends a remarkable portion of his day hanging from pipes, ledges and elevator maintenance ladders. Check out the trailer above to see the hanging (and other stuff, we guess) in action.
By the way, if any major television producers happen to be reading this post, a show called Monkey Prison would be the greatest thing ever. Feel free to use that — just send us an email so we can work out a royalty agreement.

Over 3.5 million people have downloaded the Bad Company 2 demo
Feb/100
Ever noticed how you rarely place bullets into the same dude during two consecutive games while playing the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 demo? There’s a darn good reason for that — according to a recent tweet from EA, over 3.5 million people have downloaded the sneak peek on 360 and PS3.
We weren’t sure Bad Company 2 would gain a ton of traction while sharing an audience with MAG and Modern Warfare 2, but apparently we were wrong. Maybe there’s a special portion of the market set aside for multiplayer shooters/preposterous ATV stunt simulators.

New Just Cause 2 trailers dissect the ‘Anatomy of a Stunt’
Feb/100
We love that Just Cause 2’s trailers have simply devolved into demo reels showing off the ridiculous destructive powers the player can harness using a hookshot, a parachute and a bit of ingenuity. Two such videos were recently released by Square Enix, subtitled “Anatomy of a Stunt.” The first, which shows a rather exhilarating car jump over explosive-lined jet fuel tanks, is posted above. The second, embedded after the jump, shows all the clever ways one can dispatch enemies using gravity.
Sorry, Square Enix marketing team, but we’re not comfortable classifying “murder” as a “stunt,” no matter how creative said “murder” might be.

Official introduction: Street Fighter’s ‘new’ challengers
Feb/100
Finally, after being announced by the latest issue of Famitsu and then a leaked trailer, Capcom has re-reconfirmed the addition of Street Fighter III: Third Strike’s Ibuki, Makoto and Dudley to the roster of Super Street Fighter IV. Along with the announcement, Capcom dropped a few pieces of concept art and screenshots featuring the new brawlers, posted in the gallery below. The developer also released two gameplay clips — one featuring Dudley, which we’ve posted above, and one featuring Makoto and Ibuki, which we’ve posted after the jump.
Feel free to check them out, if you’d like — however, we all know that these characters’ existence is meaningless. We’re just going to keep playing Rufus, because he’s the best character in any game, ever. Just look at him jump! How does he jump like that?

Interview: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Senior Producer Patrick Bach
Feb/100

The Battlefield: Bad Company 2 celebrity bracket challenge was a lonely event for us gamers — while there were lots of TV stars and NFL players around to talk to, we had to really search the club for someone who actually had some insight on the game for us. But there in the back, among the PR organizers and “Athlete Relations” representatives, we found the game’s senior producer Patrick Bach (second from right in the picture above). He may never have starred on a network drama or celebrated on the field after a touchdown, but the guy knows how to make first-person shooters, and that’s good enough for us.
After the break, hear what he thinks of celebrities playing his game, just how ready DICE is for release, and what kinds of secret plans his team has for DLC.

‘Guardian of Light’ a co-op Tomb Raider action game
Mar/100
Boy, when Crystal Dynamics said it would be creating “something completely new and very different” for Lara Croft, it wasn’t kidding around. GameSpot has posted a first look at Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and we don’t know where to begin. It’s downloadable, it’s isometric-view and it’s arcade-y action with just a hint of the old platforming ways. There’s a heavy co-op element, too (both local and online), with Lara and her companion, Totec (a “Mayan tribesman” wielding a spear) fighting off evil spirits and the undead, as well as combining their various skills to traverse through jungles and temples.
Actually, it looks … good. While the pace seems likely to be a little faster than the standard tomb raiding Lara does, this might be just the thing to spice up the still-aging franchise. We’ll check the game out for you at GDC next week, and let you know if this left-turn in genre is the right one for Lara to take.
