This is it folks. 150 episodes of the Xbox 360 Fancast are now in the can, and that’s not counting the many special episodes we recorded for events like E3 or the X3F TV video podcasts like XBLA in Brief. That’s a lot of episodes. To celebrate, we brought on one of our biggest fans, a man who also happens to be responsible for our fantastic podcast artwork. That’s right, it’s none other than Chris Majewski, better known to Xbox Live as Magic Whiskey.

As it happens, he’s also responsible for some horrifying depictions of X3F’s Richard and Alexander, both of which you can view after the break. We’re not sure if they’re safe for work or not, honestly. You’ll just have to make that decision on your own.

Sea level may actually rise much faster than previously expected, a new scientific study shows.

The study shows that by 2100, sea level could rise between 75 and 190 centimeters (about 2′6″ to 6′3″). The study uses very up-to-date data collected from satellites and builds on previous work by one of the authors. It is now published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The findings continue the scientific warnings that if we do not do something, climate change will take us on a snowball’s path to widespread and incomparable destruction.

Coyote

Taylor Mitchell, an up-and-coming Canadian singer-songwriter, died after being brutally attacked by coyotes earlier this week.  The talented 19-year-old musician was performing at several locations in the Canadian Maritimes.  In between gigs on Tuesday, the Toronto-native went hiking alone in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, located in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia.  Two coyotes attacked the singer while she was walking along the Skyline Trail.

Sunrise Over River Ganga

Ganga, the holiest of holy rivers in the Indian sub-continent is also one of the most polluted rivers in the region. Last year, after much lobbying, Ganga was declared the National River of India owing to its religious as well as environmental significance. However, just that could never have been enough for cleaning a river on which millions of Rupees have already been spent.

Now, the Union Environment Minister of India Mr. Jairam Ramesh, who had previously unveiled the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA), has put the NBRBA on a “mission mode” to clean the river by 2020. And his indicator for success is not clear blue waters but the return of the Gangetic dolphins that were once sighted in the river in plenty!

The Orwellian-sounding Committee on National Statistics (CNSTAT, part of the National Academy of Science) is a leadership group whose membership consists of a few dozen top government, industry, and academic statisticians. This past May, the group held its annual public symposium in Washington DC, where it sought to assess the present and plot the future of the Federal Statistical System. Approximately 250 attendees, many of them government statisticians, spent a full day trading ideas and hearing from leaders in the field and from members of the Obama Cabinet

They Might Be Profitable: AMD’s six-core "Istanbul" reviewed

Yesterday the embargoes lifted on reviews of AMD’s six-core Opteron server processor, codenamed “Istanbul,” but for all that’s riding on Istanbul there weren’t that many reviews out there. Tech Reports’ Scott Wasson and Anandtech’s Johan DeGalas, however, came through with very thorough reviews of Istanbul that pit it against its predecessor (quad-core Shanghai) and members of Intel’s Xeon line. Istanbul is essentially a quad-core Shanghai part with two extra cores and a faster HyperTransport interface.
