Target’s announced it is launching a scannable mobile coupon program — the first of its kind. The opt-in program will provides Target shoppers with a customized webpage on their mobile phones, with all offers scannable at checkout via a single barcode. Target’s no stranger to innovative marketing — its gift cards are well known for their cute, gadgety ways — and while this new program is essentially a text message driven sale (meaning it could quickly become a mere annoyance), anything that minimizes our interactions with fellow humans gets our stamp of approval, so the ability to scan your own barcode at the register? Thumbs up. The full press release is after the break.

Dragon Age ‘TidBits’ drop stats like a Fluffy punch

Game Informer’s latest “TidBits” column features a a glorious list of “inside baseball” stats from Dragon Age: Origins. Some of the numbers are simply cute, while others are positively frightening: “QA analyst Bruce Venne played 1,957.55 hours of Dragon Age PC in 5,352 games.” Consequently, “The Bruce” was awarded to staff that played more than Venne in any given month — the honor was bestowed only once.

While the list is mostly packed with numbers, there are some notable non-numerical did-you-knows, like the staff’s affectionate nickname for the Ogre, “Fluffy,” and, unsurprisingly, the revelation that one of the BioWare crew makes chain mail “from scratch.”

Check out the full list of Dragon Age tidbits on Game Informer.

Amazon and Gamefly agree: Singularity out June 29

The upcoming Singularity from Raven Software is supposed to give you the power to age objects just by gesturing at them, and it appears that ability is being tested on the game itself: Its release date has been slowly edging into the future, from early 2010 up into March and then on to June. But it seems like the timeshifting has finally come to an end, as both Amazon and Gamefly have listed the game as releasing on June 29th of this year.

Activision originally cited the delay as an attempt to keep the game away from a crowded slate of “competitive titles,” so perhaps the game will do better kicking off the dog days of summer. If Raven’s time-bending twist on the FPS captures your interest, it’ll be one more good reason to stay out of that hot, hot summer sun.

[Thanks, Shagittarius]

ESRB outs ‘Lips: I (Heart) the 80s’

For those of you looking to put your ’80s singing chops to the test, it would appear that iNiS will be offering you just that chance if a recent ESRB listing for a fourth installment in the Lips series is to be believed. “Lips: I (Heart) the 80s” was recently spotted by IGN over on the ratings website, sporting a description that reveals at least two tracks from the 1980s-centric title — The Police’s “Roxanne” and Rick James’ “Super Freak.”

The game is also said to feature “depictions of men and women in revealing outfits performing provocative choreography — for example, women in negligees, black bras, panties dancing inside a classroom; large amounts of exposed cleavage, some grinding dance moves; and background images of storefronts/signs reading ‘25 cent Peepshows,’ ‘Live Sex Theatre,’ and ‘Topless Girls Dancing.’” Gosh golly! Regardless, with the recent release of Lips: Party Classics and today’s ESRB listing, we have to imagine the official announce of Lips: I (Heart) the 80s is just around the corner. We’ll be prepping our boom boxes with plenty of Public Enemy until then.

Joe Danger stirs up trouble on PSN, doesn’t rule out other platforms

IGF-nominated indie start-up Hello Games just dished out a press release stating its upcoming title, Joe Danger, is headed to PSN. Of course, we thought it would, but it’s just nice to finally have that official confirmation, you know? You really can’t put a price on piece of mind. You also can’t put a price on this game — at least, for right now.

Joe Danger will be available for download this spring, initially exclusive to PSN as part of Pub Fund. But, that “doesn’t mean we won’t ever come to any other platforms,” a Hello Games spokesperson told Joystiq. The rep also added that “coming to console is really hard sometimes and until recently it looked like Joe Danger might never get a console release. Since we announced, and especially since the IGF, a whole bunch of people have helped us and Sony was definitely one of them.”

Believe us, dear reader — there’s nothing we’d like more than to have brought you with us to Las Vegas for this year’s DICE, but you must understand that the airfare was simply too much to bear. We’ve got the next best thing though (outside of our weeklong coverage, of course): the full bag of swag handed over to us upon entry!

In practice, this means a Modern Warfare 2 throat communicator, a Street Fighter IV fightpad, a seasonally appropriate Rock Band Network hoodie, a Rayman Raving Rabbids-themed Wiimote charger and … some other stuff! All you have to do is tell us below in the comments what you thought was the most interesting story to come out of DICE 2010. 24 hours starts now!

  • Leave a comment what you thought was the most interesting story to come out of DICE 2010.
  • You must be 18 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec, in part because of our feelings on The Quiet Revolution).
  • Limit 1 entry per person per day.
  • This entry period ends at 6:01PM ET on Monday, February 22.
  • At that time, we’ll randomly select one winner to receive one Modern Warfare 2 throat communicator (ARV $29.99), one Street Fighter IV fightpad (ARV $39.99), one Rock Band Network hoodie (ARV $10), and a Rayman Raving Rabbids-themed Wiimote charger (ARV $29.99).
  • For a list of complete rules, click here.

What is Joyswag? Since we don’t keep the games and merchandise we receive for review or promotional purposes, it becomes “Joyswag,” which is passed along to our readers. Please note that Joyswag may be in “used” condition. For more info on our policy, click here.

ESRB rates ‘Tecmo Bowl Throwback’ for PSN and XBLA

It seems that, once again, our anonymous tipster was right on the money. The ESRB recently rated Tecmo Bowl Throwback for the PSN and XBLA platforms, describing it as a “top-down arcade-style football game in which players compete against teams around the country to become the ‘Tecmo Bowl Champion.’” Though the game earned an “E” rating, the listing mentions “cheerleaders wearing low-cut tops” and “a 2D swimsuit model with some exposed cleavage.” How positively scandalous!

Surprisingly, the ESRB listing doesn’t mention a twelve-foot-tall, cybernetic Bo Jackson who causes every player who thinks about tackling him to explode in a fountain of gore. So, we’re guessing that feature isn’t getting ported over from the original game.
