Modern Warfare 2 enlists 25 million unique players, Bowling says
Mar/100
It’s not so surprising, really, that Modern Warfare 2, arguably the world’s most popular video game, would recruit such a staggering amount of bodies for its perpetual online war. But, there it is: 25 million unique players, as revealed in a tweet from Infinity Ward’s community guy-at-large, Robert “fourzerotwo” Bowling. We’ve contacted Infinity Ward for specific platform numbers, but in the meantime, Bowling offers a bit more to chew on:
He confirms the majority of players are taking the fight to Xbox Live, but he says the PS3 comes in at “a close” second. That puts the PC space in third, though it’s still enlisted “millions,” according to Bowling. But, what about that boycott? Oh, right.
Now, it should be noted that Modern Warfare 2’s reported 25 million players aren’t necessarily all on active duty. Surely, more than a few steadfast soldiers have taken up positions in DICE’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2. No rest for the weary, eh?

Prison Break trailer reveals innovative ‘constant hanging’ gameplay
Feb/100
We knew a few details about the plot of Deep Silver’s video game adaptation of Prison Break, but we weren’t aware that the game’s protagonist, Company agent Tom Paxton, was actually a chimpanzee in people-clothes. At least, that’s what we’re assuming from the title’s first gameplay trailer, posted above, in which it’s revealed Paxton spends a remarkable portion of his day hanging from pipes, ledges and elevator maintenance ladders. Check out the trailer above to see the hanging (and other stuff, we guess) in action.
By the way, if any major television producers happen to be reading this post, a show called Monkey Prison would be the greatest thing ever. Feel free to use that — just send us an email so we can work out a royalty agreement.

Blur developer diary explains plot, player progression
Jan/100
Yes, Bizarre Creations’ fast-paced, Mario Kart-esque combat racer Blur will apparently have a story, according to the trailer above. We’re just as surprised as you! Frankly, we expected the game to be completely plotless, unless you consider “you’re a guy who doesn’t like being blown up or not finishing in first place” a plot, which we don’t.
Check out the trailer above to get a brief taste of what the game’s story and character progression will entail. We guess we’re okay with these two elements being present in the game — provided they don’t provide long pauses between our drivefights.

ELSPA/Chart-Track reveal top 10 UK sellers of 2009
Jan/100
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the best-selling game in the UK during 2009, according to data from ELSPA/GFK Chart-Track. That surely comes as a foregone conclusion to any devout follower of the weekly Chart-Track all-formats report, which has seen Modern Warfare 2 at the top of the charts for nine weeks in a row. Last year’s Call of Duty installment, World at War, made the ninth spot in the top 10 for the past year.
Running up the field in second was FIFA 10, with FIFA 09 taking the tenth spot. Assassin’s Creed 2 hung on to sixth place, with the rest of the all formats chart occupied by Wii titles. Check out the full all formats list, along with the top five for each console, after the break. The top 20 can be found on the ELSPA site.

Dante’s Inferno ‘Fraud’ trailer makes you fight for your life
Jan/100
We’re … we’re just not sure we understand the reasoning behind Dante’s Inferno’s eighth circle, Fraud, depicted in the trailer above. See, Visceral Games has brought the concept of the circle’s 10 Malebolges to life in the game in form of 10 arenas, where Dante must battle all the enemies he’s fought in previous levels in succession. While doing so, he must navigate dark corridors where, according to art director Ash Huang, “you really can’t see where you’re going.” Well, that actually sounds pretty faithful to the source material. It also sounds immeasurably frustrating.
Check out the trailer above to find out where politicians go, and make sure you tune in for the final Dante’s trailer in February to catch a glimpse of Mr. Beel Z. Bubb himself.

Just Cause 2 trailer analyzes anatomy of the ‘Rocket Launcher Jump’ stunt
Mar/100
Though we’ve thoroughly enjoyed Just Cause 2’s “Anatomy of a Stunt” videos, we’re not sure the one you see posted above is accurately titled. Though the name “Rocket Launcher Jump” does capture some of the components of the stunt, it fails to mention a few other important buzzwords; namely “speedboat,” “ramp,” “explosion,” “death,” “aerial,” and “unimaginably awesome.”
Do yourself a favor and check out the video above, which we’ve chosen to remoniker “Unimaginably Awesome Speedboat Ramp Jump Aerial Rocket Launcher Explosion Death.”
