Mothership Zeta is ‘final’ Fallout 3 DLC
Jul/090
It appears that Fallout 3’s Mothership Zeta is the last DLC adventure for the (anti-)hero from Vault 101. MTV Multiplayer took note of the wording on Bethesda’s website for the game, which states that the latest piece of content is the post-nuclear saga’s “final DLC.”
We’re currently following up with Bethesda to see if they have called it quits on the Wasteland, which means that the next time we’ll be hearing from the world of Fallout will be during our trip to New Vegas next year. Come on, Bethesda. There’s still some uranium to squeeze from the glowing stone.

‘Avatar’ game requires HDMI for 3D effects
Jul/090
Avatar, the upcoming Ubisoft title based on the film James Cameron could not stop talking about during E3 2009 will require an HDMI port for 3D effects, leaving early Xbox 360 owners out in the cold. Luc Duchaine, senior international brand manager for the game adaptation of James Cameron’s Avatar confirmed to MTV Multiplayer that a full 1080p setup will be required to play the game with 3D effects.
Although all Xbox 360 consoles are now capable of upscaling content to resolutions as high as 1080p, the Avatar game requires a native 1080p output which is only achievable through HDMI (something that is common knowledge for 3D geeks, we’re told). Users with an HDMI equipped console now only need a pair of 3D glasses included with the game and a compatible 3D 1080p, 120Hz TV set! If 3D isn’t an option, the game is still playable the old-fashioned way; however, the 40-minute introduction video starring James Cameron explaining the entire Avatar universe that we expect to see when the game inserted into our console will be slightly less awesome.

NHL 10 asks gamers to ‘Battle for the Cup’
Jul/090
In a new producer-hosted NHL 10 trailer, EA Sports is showcasing the upcoming title’s “Battle for the Cup” mode. Essentially, the mode boils down to kicking off a best-of 1, 3, 5 or 7 game playoff series from the main menu, but tweaks to the game’s crowd, AI and other enhancements crank the pressure on high to perform.
Also revealed (albeit last week) was the game’s “Be a GM” mode (video after the break), where players take on the role of a team’s General Manager and attempt to build a dynasty over his tenure as the man in charge. With so many additions and enhancements hitting the ice in NHL 10, we eagerly await more details on what rival NHL 2K10 has in store. We totally hope they drop the gloves for our hard-earned cash.

JBO: Joystiq Box Office, July 20 – July 31
Jul/090

We had to skip the Joystiq Box Office last week, due to the fact that Comic-Con took over this particular writer’s duties (if interested, you can see some of what went on both here and over on Cinematical). Luckily, a lot of good stuff has come out in the meantime, and we’re back!
Recommendation of the Week:
Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience (Blu-ray: $49.99 SRP): You probably figured this one was coming. What you might not have figured on is the incredibly amazing Maximum Movie Mode that this Blu-ray brings to your player. It’s a great way of presenting special features, with the director giving commentary on the screen, while the movie plays behind him on one panel, with the features unfolding on the other. Sensory overload, in the best possible way. Plus, you get 25 extra minutes of footage in the director’s cut, and Parts 1 and 2 of the Watchmen: The End is Nigh game. Not a bad package.
Read for the full list on a system-by-system basis just after the break. As usual, we’ll see you at the popcorn st … well, actually we won’t see you at all. But you catch our drift. Plus, be sure to tell us what you’ll be watching, or what you’ve seen recently that bowled you over.

Peep the pretty worlds of Final Fantasy XIII
Jul/090
At one point we thought that Final Fantasy XIII would be lonely on our Spring 2010 calendar, but with so many delays it looks like Square Enix’s big RPG franchise has some hefty competition. Good thing for Square Enix, then, that the publisher employs an army of expert designers with the ability to wow us with screens of the upcoming game’s adventure.
GAME Watch has a handful of screenshots, including the three bundled above, showcasing the game’s beautiful art style and reminding us of how far away 2010 really is. Seriously, it’s like a year away or something. Check out GAME Watch (Translated) for more Final Fantasy XIII goodness.

Little brothers beware the Xbox Security Kit
Jul/090
You know how your little brother is always totally absconding with your Xbox 360 and making an ass of himself on Xbox Live, thus banning you from teh Haloz and Gears of Warz? Well, now you can keep your console under lock and key, literally, thanks to the Xbox Security Kit from NewPCGadgets.com. Utilizing steel plates, some cable and a padlock, this baby will make sure your 360 stays put. Of course, it’s only as effective as whatever you anchor it to, but we’re sure you can figure something out (we suggest a Bengal tiger).
If you want one of your very own, it will set you back $30 (tiger not included).

That is to say, a Gold membership is not required. So, go out there and chainsawdomize Locusts (or COGs) to your heart’s content. The promotion is already underway and will last until 11:59am Eastern on August 3. So, you’d better get to it on the double, soldier!
